So you’ve crowd-surfed at Tate? You’ve waited in line at the Royal Academy. Love Art London is an art membership club which takes its members behind the scenes with exclusive access to the city’s best-kept secrets.
From artist studios or curator tours of major exhibitions to graduate shows and restoration laboratories, membership starts at £55 a year.
The focus is on intimate, social experiences for busy Londoners, led by artists, curators and private collectors. Why get an audio guide when you can get the gossip straight from the horse’s mouth? Set up in February 2010 by Chris Pensa, former Expert at Sotheby’s and Courtauld Institute of Art Graduate.

Love Art London puts together a monthly programme of events which are free to members.
Membership ranges from £55 per year to £25 per month to suit all diaries.
www.loveartlondon.com/membership Love Art London founder, Chris Pensa was working as a Sotheby’s expert in 2009 when his job took him to the Laboratory of a London restorer. “We were bathing a Picasso in liquid and the experience blew my mind. I knew my mates would die to see this but they wouldn’t have the first clue how to make it happen. Why should my job give me exclusive access to these experiences? I wanted to share my backstage pass to the city’s art scene. So I quit my stable, respectable job at Sotheby’s to take a punt on this idea.”
Pensa has been surprised by his findings. “I was amazed to discover how excited famous artists and curators, highly respected restorers and gallerists, are to connect directly with their audience, the public. We’ve done some incredible things in the last year. One of my personal favourites was taking our members behind the scenes at the Bank of England, standing in Mervyn King’s office checking out his Canaletto paintings. That was pretty special.” Dates with Sir Anthony Caro and Rob Ryan in their studios have also proven to be incredibly popular.
